Candle Care

Every Fair Cake Candle is hand-poured with love in my Brighton studio, and I want you to enjoy it for as long as possible. With a little care, your candle will burn beautifully, filling your home with fragrance and warmth.

Your First Burn

The very first time you light your candle is the most important. Let it burn for at least two hours, or until the wax has melted evenly across the top. This helps your candle remember how to burn, and prevents it from tunnelling down the middle.

A Little Trim Goes a Long Way

Before lighting your candle again, take a moment to trim the wick to around ¼ inch (6mm). It may seem small, but it makes all the difference — giving you a cleaner burn, less smoke, and more time to enjoy your candle.

Finding the Perfect Burn Time

I recommend enjoying your candle for no more than four hours at a time. This keeps the wax happy, protects the glass, and helps the fragrance spread gently through your space.

Putting Out the Flame

When it’s time to say goodnight to your candle, blow it out gently or use a snuffer. Just check that the wick is standing tall and centred afterwards — it’ll be ready for its next glow.

Safe & Happy Burning

Place your candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from draughts or anything flammable.

Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it out of reach of little hands or curious paws.

If you’re lighting more than one, give them at least 10cm of space between each one.

Keeping Your Candle Fresh

Store your candle somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight. Natural waxes like soy and coconut are sensitive souls, and this will keep both the fragrance and appearance at their best.
