FAQs

How long does a Fair Cake Candles reed diffuser last?

Our 100ml reed diffusers typically last between 3 and 4 months, depending on the room temperature, airflow, and how often you flip the reeds. Warmer rooms and frequent reed flipping will release more fragrance but shorten the lifespan, while cooler, less draughty spaces will help the scent last longer.

How do I use a reed diffuser?

Remove the stopper from the glass bottle and insert the reeds into the oil, spreading them out in a fan shape. Allow a few hours for the oil to travel up the reeds before the fragrance begins to diffuse. To refresh the scent, simply flip the reeds every 1–2 weeks — just be sure to wipe any drips and wash your hands after handling.

Where should I place my reed diffuser?

For the best results, place your diffuser in a room with good airflow, such as a hallway, living room, or bathroom, where the scent can circulate naturally. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, near radiators, or on polished or painted surfaces, as the oil can damage finishes if spilled. A coaster or tray underneath is always a good idea.

Are your reed diffusers made with natural ingredients?

Yes. Each reed diffuser is hand-poured in our Brighton studio using high-quality fragrance oils and essential oils, in keeping with the clean, non-toxic approach we take across the Fair Cake Candles range. They're vegan-friendly and never tested on animals.

What's the difference between a reed diffuser, a candle, and a wax melt?

A reed diffuser provides a subtle, continuous fragrance with no flame — ideal for rooms where you want a steady background scent. A candle offers a warm glow alongside its fragrance and is perfect for creating a cosy atmosphere. Wax melts are flameless pieces of scented wax that are melted on a burner using a tea light, giving you a stronger, customisable scent throw and the flexibility to switch fragrances whenever you like.

How do I use the Wax Melt Burner?

Place one or two wax melts in the top dish of the burner, then light a standard tea light in the compartment below. As the tea light warms the dish, the wax will gently melt and release its fragrance throughout the room. Once the scent fades, allow the wax to cool and harden, then pop it out and replace with fresh melts. Our lattice burner also casts a lovely decorative shadow while it works.

Are reed diffusers safer than candles for homes with children and pets?

Reed diffusers are flame-free, which makes them a practical option for homes with children or pets, and they provide a constant, subtle scent without any supervision needed. That said, the fragrance oil inside is not safe to ingest, so always keep the bottle out of reach and wipe up any spills immediately. For families looking for a completely flame-free option, a reed diffuser is an excellent choice.
